Question might be allowed: why is it too late for it? Expected release date for 42.3 is 11 days ahead, time enough I'd say for such a leaf package... Especially as it has been tested in TW since quite some time now.
Or just send it to openSUSE:Leap:42.3:Update then. The new smartmontools won't be needed during installation, or will it?
I'd also like to see smartmontools in Leap which support NVMe as I always have to use a custom package just to check the health of my NVMe SSD. Leap 42.3 is almost released. So only fixing of severe installation bugs and no new features there. Creating a fate against Leap 42.4 and/or complaining to the package maintainer might help.
