Hi Factory users and developers, I am working on providing a new desktop selection dialog in installation as specified in https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/14936 .
Quoting from this issue #14936:
revamp the desktop selection screen
The screen needs to be redone to better explain the main options and list alternative desktop offerings in a fair way if the online repos are enabled.
I think a clearer identification of the problem with the current options would be helpful, and for example would help avoid needless GUI churning and change for the sake of change.
What would be the loss in terms of usability, reliability, security and functionality if the present interface were kept?

For tumbleweed, under the current design to be fair and equitable, we would have a list of 7 options under "Other", Xfce, LXDE, LXQt, Enlightenment, Mate, Cinnamon and Minimal X. The first issue is with the current design they won't all fit but then secondarily wouldn't it be nice to have a short description and maybe a screenshot for each? -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
