Don't worry about my case, I just put it as an example of one machine that needs "vga=something". If I remember correctly, you helped me to set it up some years ago. I don't remember all the issues I had with it.
You may have forgotten about one. I've had several 845Gs, and still have two running TW, one a Dell/Foxconn, the other an Intel. Each has a BIOS option to choose between 1MB and 8MB for framebuffer or some such. With 8MB selected, KMS is fully supported. BIOS resets and dead batteries revert the selection to 1MB.
Ah. I'll print this, so that I can remember to try. The machine is my acting server, so I boot it about once a month. It has no battery. Ah, you probably refer to the bios battery, that one is recent. Still... ram is 0.5 GB, not much to spare. Wait. AmonLanc:~ # hwinfo --framebuffer ... Memory Size: 7 MB + 832 kB So the option is already set. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
