text progress in percent (which has the small issue that it shows 100%
at the beginning before it actually goes down to a real percentage...

Many people do not like it.. these people are dead wrong though :-)

From within a GNOME Session, you can perfectly trigger offline updateand this is in fact how I have been updating my machine for a while by
now.
What is missing is a nicer integration with plymouth - all we get is a
text progress in percent (which has the small issue that it shows 100%
at the beginning before it actually goes down to a real percentage...
but that's quite minor as an issue)
