Can you please check your akonadi mysql config file
~/.local/share/akonadi/mysql.conf if something around this line looks
suspicious? (If in doubt, upload the file ;-)

table_cache was removed in mysql 5.6. (in a minor release, yes, great job...)
Edit ~/.local/share/akonadi/mysql.conf and replace table_cache with

This is known upstream, no need to create a report

Tks much, this did indeed solve my problem.

As to creating a report, will not the same problem occur to others and a
solution not be readily available w/o a report, unless the fix is
imminent ???
