Lynn, I do not know what is happening on your system, but it appears to be something "special" with your computer. Being a troglodyte, plus I generate lots of kernels, I am still using grub legacy, but I converted two real systems to GRUB2 to test. On both, the time between selecting a kernel to boot, and the first output from systemd is 2 to 3 seconds! Next I created a new VBox VM from the KDE Live CD v86_64 12.2 RC2 (Build 91) with grub2 as the bootloader, and did a "zypper up" after the installation. From the VBox BIOS splash screen to the GRUB2 selection screen is also 2-3 seconds. Why your system is hanging for 4 minutes is still a mystery. What version of VBox are you using? Mine is 4.1.18 r78361 that I downloaded from the Oracle web site.
