I'm trying to install a rolling openSUSE under VMware workstation 8.0.4 . I did a fresh default desktop installation of openSUSE 12.1 with KDE. Updated to the latest patch level using Yast update, and switched to Tumbleweed following the discussion on http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Tumbleweed After reboot, I am unable to open a desktop environment. The display drops back to KDM login screen after a login. I can login from terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1). From /var/log/messages it appears that this is caused by "no mtrr found" (I have 3D acceleration off in VMware). Before I start digging into the hardware details of VMware I would like to know if you guys can help me out with this one. Note that for the 12.1 installation I used the prebuilt Open Virtual Machine Tools guest kernel module rather than build the kernel module from the VMware tools source. Thanks for your ideas.
