Exactly, not needed. What is nice though is to collect crash reports from optimized builds (with a default-activated but opt-in-with-dialog model), collect that data and take action on the issues that rank high in the statistics coming out of that.
This is what we are doing at Mozilla, and I'm sure we'd be willing to help others who want to deploy the Free Software tools Breakpad (client-side) and Socorro (server-side) that we are using for that purpose.
Just wondering: do you know why Fedora went with ABRT instead of re-using what Mozilla had developped? And do you have any opinion on ABRT?
