Welcome to our community in this case. I'm sure we all will make it as comfortable for you as we possibly can.
Thanks, i hope it will be :)
ps. im not sure what maillist i was supposed to send this to, hence my choise in this one
I'd say you picked the right one. Milestone releases are 'just' snapshots of the rolling Factory. And once in a while they get a version stamp and are 'released'.
Oops i forgot to remove that line, i Was going to send this to the opensuse-gnome list, hence that line ;) but i found the factory list just before i sent the mail.
Im running GNOME as DE but with Xfwm4 as my windowmanager instead of Metacity.
previous milestone, i did like so ... "killall metacity && xfwm4 --replace&" and re-logged in, and all was peachy.
Now in this release, after doing the above, it still tries to start metacity every half minute or so.. (noticed this due to spewing out errors in my tty1 when i missed a metacity theme) ... maby it was like that in previous milestones aswell, but i didnt notice due to lack of missing theme?! :)
ps2. concider this a bugreport of sorts...
this will be lost before this mail thread dies. Please file all your bugreports at http://bugzilla.novell.com. That's the only place they will be tracked and get the needed attention.
Allright, will do!
Also, the update from milestone to milestone release is to me a big PITA
a simple "sudo zypper dist-upgrade" seems to crash my installation most of the time. (read, the Milestone 3,4,5) .. then having to revert back to milestone2 and do a dist-upgrade again.
Hmm. can't say much here, as I'm mainly using the rolling Factory tree, which always worked for me with zypper dup. But if you have such issues and even in a reproducable way, I'd advocate to have it worthy as bugreports (see above).
Hmm .. i Think tho that this has to do with kernel version issues.
The kernel, Kernel-default-extra .. in this milestone is different version than kernel-default .. which is fun, since doing a ínstallation using the milestone2 installer ext4 is the default filesystem, not beeing supported by the kernel-default :P
Another nice bug I would say? :) maybe the decision was also reverted. I can't speak on that one. This can happen in the development process (Factory and the M releases are NOT considered for mission critical systems. It's the development branch and as such needs to be treated with sufficient care. Even though I've been running it on my business notebook for quite a while. Just holding back sometimes kernel updates and xorg updates (kernel due to the need of vmware, which is breaking once and so often and the nvidia blob).
Allright, will do,
aaannd.. Yast , the package management seems to break aswell.. i can fire up yast2 but when i choose the package management, it says something about not having Gtk plugin installed or something like that.
For this one I can even tell you the bugzilla number :) I filed that one already, so we can except a fix on it soon (hopefully): See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=529569
Great! Will keep following this one!
sorry, this became a long mail with lots of "complaints".. .but its cus i luve the opensuse.. actually.
LONG is different :) you still have some spare lines. I would not consider anything in your mail a 'complaint'. It's all fully valid points. Just report them at the right places to be sure they will get proper attention.
Again, will do so, shortly, and thanks for your rapid response!
