Listmates,
I had a brush with very strange thing called readline (version 6) and bash (version 4). I don't know if it was the defaults I was exposed to or a strange configuration of key bindings, but it was a challenge to use. What is the plan for readline 6 and bash 4 in openSuSE? When implemented, will openSuSE try and retain its configuration and key-mappings so that bash 4 and readline 6 continues to work like bash 3.2 and readline 6?
It works fine here. Without more details, we can't do anything. (And you should probably open a bug if you think it's a bug :-))

Vincent, I don't think there is a bug, but I was just curious if there were new "standard" defaults that would come with readline 6. I was working with the Arch development version with vi 7.2-166 and some changes really stood out with the way the readline/vi combination worked together: (1) vimrc was eliminated; (2) the konsole screen flashes when you double-escape (I'm sure you can disable this indication); (3) in insert mode if you move to column 1, things go nuts, you are taken out of pure 'insert' mode into some mode that isn't command mode either, moving and typing 'i' to go back into insert mode didn't, instead it would capitalize the letter to the left of the cursor -- really weird stuff... I was trying to find out from the factory guys here that work with the new readline, bash and/or vi, if there was some big change coming down the pipe or if it just sounds like I stumbled into a weird setup of the new packages? -- David C.
