I've tried using monodevelop (previous mono version and now 2.2) to build .NET sources, all a big failure and seemingly only good for code written specially for mono.
I haven't used monodevelop personally but colleagues have without issue. I've not heard of many issues, but IIRC you have to be careful of what .Net version you're writing for as there is a compatability issue.
Am I flogging a dead horse or am I missing a clue or two?
A very good chance you're missing something or other. A very useful resource is #mono on irc.gimp.net they are very active and pretty friendly.

AOK, thanks, I'll take a look. It's a Software Defined Radio (SDR) app, so I posted to their group, but got not a single response, though there are quite a number of guys on there I know are clued in on Linux and one who is a Ubuntu Product Manager and SDR developer.
