Download and burn the 'NET' aka "MINI" CD and boot that in the internal drive. It will find an external drive with DVD and seamlessly transfer to that, if present.
Thanks. Only one computer here. The mini.iso does indeed work with external DVD-RW. And I get basically the same errors as reported in bug report:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=429344
I believe this diminishes the probability of a hardware issue. Good to know how to use external drive to install from. At least in openSUSE.
FWIW I get some problems similar to those that you list in that bug. Not sure yet why... Another thing to try. If you have 5G or so spare HD space (maybe even on another drive): 1. loop mount the DVD image (as root: mount -o loop,ro image.iso mountpoint) 2. copy the contents to HD, ideally in a place that will be easy to specify (see below) (such such as /data) 3. Boot from the NET / MINI CD and try 'Hard Disc' as installation source. I haven't used this approach recently but it *used to* work OK ;-) See also http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_without_CD#Installing_from_data_saved_on... -- Cheers Richard (MQ) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
