After the update today, there appears to be some work done on Xorg. Screen savers (openGL) would frequently hang the desktop after running awhile and sometimes only run in a small window. Both of those look like have been fixed.....this with Intel video chipset. Also, Frozzen-Bubble would totally seize the system.....that no longer happens.
Someone else reported today that he's having problem with sound....not very loud on his laptop. I have the same problem with Intel audio chipset. Also, ANY moving video, i.e., Utube or file clip of any type "stutters".....video and audio isn't smooth.
Re sound: go to Control Centre and check that the Volume setting(s) are still set to the correct (~max) levels. I've found that upgrades sometimes alter the settings.
Was that way since the initial install.
OK.
The other thing I found is that I couldn't get any sound (I have an Audigy 4 card) with external speakers attached until I installed and ran alsamixergui and unmuted the Digital Output Jack. While this for you is only academic since you do have sound, you could check in alsamixer at what levels your various channels are set.
Did that, but I also have the same card so this is important for me when I install 11.1 when it's gold...also for some clients who also have it.
Re stuttering. Same thing happened to me yesterday. I rebooted the system and the problem seems to have vanished. Try it.
'First thing I tried....nada. It's either the Intel driver isn't as quick as it should be, or there's a problem with "x".
You stated that both audio and video were stuttering. Somehow I wouldn't connect audio stuttering with "x" - video, yes.
'Not sure. If I pay close attention they seem to be in sync.
Rather an interesting error I seem to be getting when I boot the set of HDs with 11.1 Beta on them: the auto check of new upgrades fails and when I look at the reason why it failed I see something along the lines of "DBus error - daemon not running" or words to this affect.
Hasn't this been an error a number have reported? I haven't had, however.
My gut feeling is that some application is excessively using the dbus causing the stuttering of both audio and video. Perhaps you know of a way of checking this out.
No....I don't. I've read all the log files trying to find something somewhere to give me a clue....nada.
