I have an external USB HD attached. The HD is partitioned into a Linux and a Windows (NTFS) partition.
When I switch on this HD, Beta2 does not recognise the Windows partition and comes up with an error message, "Mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdd5, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In [sic] some cases useful useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so". This problem has not occurred in 10.3 or earlier versions. I haven't tried doing the "dmesg | tail or so" thingie. ... [mixing] ... PS Just had a look at dmesg | tail and found this:
ntf8 is no longer supported use nls=utf8
This is one bug, that you should report on bugzilla. I think the automounter routine is trying to mount with a no longer supported option.
Sorry for the long delay in responding but I do like to check things out before 'complaining'. I just discovered that the same thing is occurring in 10.3 - same error message and I cannot access the ntfs-formatted partition even though it is "recognised" (as in, 'what do I want to do with it: open in new window, cancel, etc') when I startup the USB HD. I'll now check to see if I exited the partition in XP properly (yuck! I haven't even looked at XP for at least a month!); maybe this is what is causing the problem.
But as I type this, I repeatedly keep getting on my screen the normal menu(s) which come up when a USB device is plugged in - which I then have to Cancel, but it keeps coming back. Nice.
And this is another bug that you should report on bugzilla.
At least this is not happening under 10.3 at the moment; so maybe the hassle IS in 11.0 - dunno.
