Yes, I'm using it, I dont see any updater applet, like opensuseupdater-kde[gnome] was before
Not sure if those are in the build service (http://software.opensuse.org/search?baseproject=openSUSE%3A10.3&p=1&q=opensuse-updater-kde only shows one other home: repository having it), but YaST software management is a GUI to libzypp (which zypper uses).
It lists updates, not brand new packages - I mean packages that didnt exist before - such packages often appear eg. in packman repository
It lists _package_ updates, yes. I don't think there's a way to list packages that didn't exist in the repository before, though perhaps someone else might know.
