Yes, the way it's now, although it seems funny to veterans, it's much better--a very good idea. Note that it's only for tty1 where the init messages are.
I understand your problem - but you are looking for the wrong solution ;-) It shouldn't be too hard to change the initscripts - the "done" should always be printed at column 70, not at the right screen margin.
