Hello All,
I installed OpenSuSe 10.1 beta with all the updates on a Dell Optiplex, with Windows XP on the first partition. Basically Windows was installed first, and then on the free space Open SuSE was installed. Now during reboot, I get just the Dell POST screen, it goes black, and then the Dell POST screen again, and this would go on forever if I let it.
Is there any message from Grub?
None, there are no messages
I know it hardly seems like an SuSe problem because it is barely getting to the boot process.
I don´t want to make you panic, but it reminds me of my first experience with my Laptop. In that case the harddisk was broken (from transport I think) and after 2 days of installing suddenly I could not boot anymore. Try mounting the harddisk from a Knoppix other Live-Distro to exclude this case. 2 identical Dell machines with identical installs, 2 identical problems. I installed this on my machine and hadn't rebooted left it running to get updates. A coworker wanted to look at Linux, let him borrow the install CD's. He installed as I did, and was running fine. He rebooted got this problem, so I rebooted and have the same thing. Rule out hardware here.
I apologize in advance if this isn't the proper procedure for this type of thing, but I do not know how to create a bug report (if it is) and I am looking for help. Thank you in advance as well. BIOS has been put back to hard drive as first device as I booted from CD-ROM to install.
BIOS sees the hard drive so it is installed and working (and even worked fine before the reboot) I am thinking it's boot loader thing, how do I edit this?
I don´t think your BIOS has anything to do with that. To me it´s quite comfortable to have CD-ROM as first boot-device.
I agree, I just wanted to make sure I eliminated someone's response of "make the hard drive the first device." I am in IT, I know that much. lol
Good Luck Peter
Again, many apologies if needed as well as many thanks for any advice.
