I have never heard of the environment variable LG_ALL. Is this a cups related thing?
I found it in the end in /etc/sysconfig/language file. It is a language issue. Thanks for your help.
on install to run a command to add root to lppasswd and add it to the sys group which worked but my printer now does not work.
Assuming this is as user root, login as root, and type:
groups
that'll tell you what groups root is a member of. I'd also just ensure that root *is* a member of the 'lppassword' group by editing:
/etc/groups
Also on the install, midgard and the new kernel failed to install (although it loads the modules on boot up for it). I don't know if these files are bad on the DVD?
Probably you'll have to compile the latest kernel (2.6.0-test5), and include the midgard patch for it. My general rule of thumb is to ditch whatever Kernel the distro comes with and compile your own one.
Has anyone else seen similar issues?
Nope, at least not under Debian :)
I am not infront of the machine at the moment so will check anything suggested when I get home.
I'd be interested to hear what results you do get.
