I recently asked about a problem I had with iptables. I have now fixed it myself (- always the best and most satisfying solution). The problem turned out to be that I really needed to flush and delete everything (including some garbage) that I had manged to get entered by several false attempts. The fact that iptables -L gave nothing made me assume that nothing was entered. Using iptables --flush iptables --table nat --flush iptables --delete-chain iptables --table nat --delete-chain then iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface eth1 -j MASQUERADE iptables --append FORWARD --in-interface eth0 -j ACCEPT and writing 1 to /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward did the trick. Then add the linux box as a gateway - and hey presto IP access to the outside the firewall. Now I suppose I had better learn how to tighten up the security. Now if any one could solve another problem (and I won't mind getting helped rather than doing it myself).... Why does cygwin Xserver - as put together my Michael of Fen systems, not produce icons and stuff of the K desktop correctly when using SUSE8.2 ..seemed find on earlier versions. -- Alan Davies Head of Computing Birkenhead School
