Haven't actually read what this is all about (other than it's obviously about problems with KMail). I used KMail for a while but thought it was pretty lacking in features and usability. Now I just use Mozilla Mail and its great! :) Mozilla is a fabulous browser too (how did we ever live without tabs?). In many cases, you're better off using the shutdown script or pkill if you must be rude. (I know about killall, but that has different meanings in different places.)
Indeed, but you have to realise that using "pkill" kills processes by name. Using the above method is, umm, much more specific.
