We're doing pretty well configuring our LTSP machines with a fairly well locked down configuration. I'm struggling, however, in getting kandalf's useful tips (ktip) not to run at login. I'm sure that probably there's some config file somwhere which I need to hack, but I can't find it!
Try removing the .destop file from $KDEDIR/share/autostart. Actually if you remove some of the other unncesessary things (KPersonalizer) you should save a few CPU cycles on start up :)
Let me add a little bit to that. If you look at $KDEDIR/share/autostart/ktip.desktop wou will find the following line in there: X-KDE-autostart-condition=kdewizardrc:General:TipsOnStart:true This means that you can disable ktip by adding in the file "kdewizardrc", to the group "[General]" the entry "TipsOnStart=false". The "true" in the line above means that the default is "true" -> ktip is started by default if no such entry exists. With some luck you have a file named README.autostart somewhere where the working of the autostart directory is explained in more detail. Just removing the ktip.desktop file from the autostart directory works of course just fine too. Cheers, Waldo -- bastian@kde.org | SuSE Labs KDE Developer | bastian@suse.com
