Hi coolo,
Can you please elaborate why you consider discussions harmful and prefer mails from a commenting system instead of mail conversations?
I don't mind the discussions, I am worried that them being handled out of band, that means outside the request history, . IMHO they should be part of the request history, so that you can also at a later point in time (think: in two months from now) remember why things were done a certain way, without having to check at many different places for potential information. I won't disable a feature just because it can be abused. Possibly we get at some point a mail parsing feature, then we can munge the reply-to.
In addition to that I also have a hard time filtering those discussions into a separate folder, as those "reply-to-all" mails arrive as private mail directly in my inbox, rather than in the folder that contains all the other hermes emails. If there is a way to improve my filter rules, please let me know.
Hmm, the subjects are already pretty long - but we can add a unique tag to make it easier to filter. The filtering is a problem anyway as e.g. gmail only filters for mailing lists, subject or from. Either we add [obs] in all emails (just as hermes basically did) or we let the admin configure a mail prefix, so you can have [packobs] too.
