We don't have /lib/modprobe.d. Upstream seems to, as does Debian. I think we should follow this pattern. /etc/ is for user-defined local changes only.
I can't make the ultimate call here, but I'd be fine to add a patch for now.
Which kind of patch? Including files below /etc/modprobe.d on SUSE also if $hostonly is not set for existing products? Then I would like to reassign the bugreport to you.
