From the ld manual:

The '--fix-cortex-a53-835769' switch enables a link-time workaround
for erratum 835769 present on certain early revisions of Cortex-A53
processors. The workaround is disabled by default.

I was able to reproduce this on the following SoCs (based on info printed on
the board):
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B V1.2
Pine64 A64-DB-2G-Rev B 2016-02-25

I wonder if these devices use the "early revisions of Cortex-A53" and what
early revision means here.
