(In reply to Stefan Dirsch from comment #9)
You never described what exactly happened. Which desktop have you seleced?
GNOME, KDE. Anything else? No desktop at all? Which displaymanager is
running (in case you know this)? Is the Xserver crashing, i.e. you get a new
login screen? Or do you see a blank screen? Anything else?

From the initial description it looked like you were logging into the Linux
console and then ran startx. Which simply no longer works since a long time.

At first reboot, get logging screen with initial user name
Type the password
Get a blank screen with a little windows X type with a message:
"Could not start kdeinit5. Check your installation"
So I stopped Xserver from keyboard.
Got the logging screen
Restart the computer and edit the command line and add "init 3"
Log as initial user.
Then ran startx
.
