A strange thing happened. I looked at dmesg when I booted back up, and here is
what I got (while the touchpad was still working):
# dmesg | grep mouse
[ 1.771332] mousedev: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
[ 2.378989] psmouse serio1: elantech: assuming hardware version 4 (with
firmware version 0x4d5f02)
[ 2.392941] psmouse serio1: elantech: Synaptics capabilities query result
0x00, 0x15, 0x10.
[ 2.407055] psmouse serio1: elantech: Elan sample query result 0c, 02, 75
[ 336.607211] psmouse serio1: Touchpad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at
byte 6
Then I moved the cursor with the touchpad again until it stopped moving, as
before. After that, I ran the command again:
tribeDellbig:/home/george # dmesg | grep mouse
tribeDellbig:/home/george #
Nothing - doesn't read anything there now.
