As you said in Comment 1, Intel is already patched.
So let's talk about Nouveau:

Honestly, our grief was usually with the 3D driver in Mesa, rather than the
DDX.

If the DDX ain't broken, don't fix it. If trouble with the Nouveau DDX comes
up, or we find that it hampers performance on recent cards, then we can still
switch to Modesetting/GLAMOR. Otherwise, why touch a running system?

I'm so glad someone still wrote dedicated 2D acceleration code, and if this
helps make older cards run an awesome X11 desktop, let's keep it. I believe
newer cards won't get DDX code anymore, just like in Radeon, so this code
should become pretty static soon.
