--- Comment #15 from Donald Curtis <bugrprt21882@xxxxxxxxx> ---
I suggest that, this bug report be closed.

On VT1, at init level 3, 'plymouthd' and then 'plymouth --show-splash' works
fine.

Examination of the following boot journal extract reveals that the core dump is
not causing too much harm on this AMD Dual-Graphics Laptop:

# journalctl --this-boot | grep -i 'plymouth'

Jan 10 18:30:23 xxx systemd[1]: Started Show Plymouth Boot Screen.

Jan 10 18:30:24 xxx systemd[1]: Starting Plymouth switch root service...
Jan 10 18:30:24 xxx systemd[1]: Started Plymouth switch root service.

Jan 10 18:30:32 xxx systemd[1]: Started Tell Plymouth To Write Out Runtime

Jan 10 18:30:34 xxx systemd[1]: plymouth-start.service: Main process exited,

Jan 10 18:30:34 xxx systemd[1]: plymouth-start.service: Unit entered failed

Jan 10 18:30:34 xxx systemd[1]: plymouth-start.service: Failed with result
'core-dump'.

dumped core.
#

The SIGRTMIN+21 signal plymouthd sends to systemd should simply disable the
verbose console boot messages -- why the plymouth process should dump core as a
result of that remains a mystery.

There are also the following bug reports related to the SIGRTMIN+21 signal:
<https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=832947>
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91590>

Therefore I suggest placing this bug report in the "it's not Intel hardware"
category.
