I think this issue is not related to the vmtoolsd deamon, which is running fine
in my system, but to the vmware-user-suid-wrapper tool which should be started
by the vmware-user-autostart-wrapper script, which should be in turn run by
/etc/sdg/autostart/vmware-user-autostart.desktop everytime a user session
begins.

I think that vmware-user-suid-wrapper is not started correctly, in fact if I
try to run it from the shell I get this error message:

vmware-user: could not open /proc/fs/vmblock/dev

That device node is created by the vmblock-fuse device driver which, as far as
I know, implements the transport layer used for the cut & paste and drag & drop
functionalities.
