I also do experience similar machine crashes. So far I have not been lucky to
collect a coredump, but I guess I will get one soon.

Observed behaviour:
Machine freezes suddenly and fan start to produce a lot of noise. After a
longer while I reboot manually and there is nothing in the logs nor /var/crash.
Next time it happens I will wait longer (>30min ?).

My crash happens quite irregularly, I am not sure what triggers it. I left some
busy loops working over a night and nothing has happened.

I do use e1000e driver as well.
