What's your proposal how to continue?
Close this bug? Or do you see other possibilities to get a bugfix backported to
gcc 4.8.3. The latter solution is preferred by me.
Some background information: we build our product currently on SLES 11. As soon
as SLES 11 (standard) support has dropped, we move to SLES 12. As a result,
customers that use our product need to have the C and C++ runtime belonging to
the compiler used by us. If we switch to gcc5.x and if that compiler forces
customers to install an additional C/C++ runtime that is not installed at
default, then customers may complain.
That's for me the reason not to switch to gcc 5.x and why I prefer gcc 4.8.3.
If such dependencies do not popup (because SLES 12 at default ships a C and/or
C++ runtime that suits for the gcc 5.x compiler), it is ok for me to close this
bug. I will then move to gcc 5.x as soon as it become available for SLES 12 (as
you have said before: at the end of this year).
Please let me know your thoughts.
