I have tried several suggestion found online
Since psmouse is built-in I reckon the following does not work
rmmod psmouse && modprobe psmouse
Adding one of the following options to /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf
options psmouse proto=bare
options psmouse proto=imps
options psmouse proto=exps
My latest attempt was to add the following to the kernel command line on boot:
psmouse.force_elantech=1
It didn't work either.
I found a kernel bug report regarding this same issue with ElanTech touchpad on
a Fujitsu H730. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48161
