[Bug 874452] New: rdesktop doesn't react to user input (keyboard, mouse) when connected to VirtualBox

Summary: rdesktop doesn't react to user input (keyboard, mouse)
when connected to VirtualBox
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 13.1
Version: Final
Platform: Other
OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Network
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: Yarny@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa-bugs@xxxxxxx
Found By: ---
Blocker: ---

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101

When connecting to a running VirtualBox, rdesktop prints
Failed to negotiate protocol, retrying with plain RDP.
WARNING: Remote desktop changed from 800x600 to 1024x768.
(and more warnings whenever the VBox changes its screen resolution) and shows
its window containing the VBox screen. The window also updates its content
whenever the VBox draws something new on its screen or changes its resolution.
However, keystrokes and mouse events are not passed into the VBox. The
rdesktop window doesn't even react when it's close-window button (X in upper
right corner with my window deco) is pressed. When the rdesktop window is
minimized and restored, only parts of the screen are redrawn, other parts
remain black until the VBox modifies them.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a VirtualBox with rdp-server enabled
2. Use rdesktop to connect to it
3. Try to control the VBox with rdesktop
Actual Results:
User input is ignored.

I'm using rdesktop 1.8.1-2.4.1 and VirtualBox 4.2.18-2.9.1.

VirtualBox seems to contribute to the bug in some way: I also tested rdesktop
with xrdp 0.7-5.2 from home:bmanojlovic repository, and it did accept
keyboard/mouse input.

This bug was discovered while investigating Bug 849740.
