Checked this again after some time… Right after boot, /dev/console is owned
and ug+rw by root:adm. After first login into KDE from kdm /dev/console is
owned and u+rw by root:root. On a subsequent login into a new session from
KDM, /dev/console is briefly owned and u+rw by user:group (this is when
xconsole briefly works), but reverts to root:root after maximum five minutes.
So the issue here is clearly that (at least) two processes don't agree about
who should own /dev/console and overwrite each others' ownerships of that
device. I'm using syslog-ng if that makes a difference.
