It works fine in console mode though.
In console, if you press and hold the lower brightness key comb, brightness
decreases quickly and smoothly.
In X, if you press and hold the lower brightness key comb, brightness overall
will decrease to 0, but it's constantly going up and down as it does so (2
steps down one step up).
It's as if the values for brightness sometimes take too long to be updated,
after each instruction to change it is triggered. So suppose one instruction
lowers the actual brightness from 30% to 20%, if the next one comes too
quickly, it would again lower from 30% to 20%, rather than 20% to 10%, so
brightness goes up (instantly) and then down again (smoothly).
Also note that while I can reproduce this behaviour in 3.9.7, which I am using
now. It doesn't appear to crash any longer.
