https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823633 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823633#c0 Summary: opengl applications freeze system with intel i915 driver Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ronnypeine@gmx.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:21.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/21.0 I have upgraded a system from openSUSE 12.1 to 12.3. After the upgrade opengl applications freeze the system completely. Before the upgrade everything went well. So i dug a bit deeper into this issue. I can reliably reproduce the freeze with just starting glxgears. I needed quite some reproductions to get related Xorg and dmesg-output for this because getting any output is quite some gambling if the system only very rarely gives any feedback at all (sometimes ssh access lead to success). So, I am attaching the Xorg.log and dmesg-output to this case. I read the following sources about this problem: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54226 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=799516 Using the module parameter semaphores=0 for i915 didn't improve the situation. I tested to disable the rc6 powermanagement function and this reliably fixed the issue for me. For this I had to create the file /etc/modprobe.d/99-local.conf with following entry: # Hanging Intel GPU options i915 i915_enable_rc6=0 So it seems to work now fine for me. Maybe you could backport the mentioned patch in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54226 which has only been integrated into kernel 3.10 as it seems. Hope this workaround mentioned here helps others with an Intel Sandybridge GPU. Some extra informations: System is a Lenovo Thinkpad E520 (1143-B6G) with Core i3-2330M CPU. Upgrading the BIOS to version 1.25 (release date March 2013) didn't help. Kind regards. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. glxgears 2. 3. Actual Results: System freezes Expected Results: opengl applications should not kill the system -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
