Summary: AutoYaST not setting root user password or adding any
users from <users> list
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 12.3
Version: Final
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: AutoYaST

I have been using AutoYaST since SuSE 10.2. When creating a new OpenSUSE 12.3
system using AutoYaST the system is getting built and no errors are reported,
but the password of the root user is not set so I cannot log in. I've rebooted
into rescue mode and manually mounted the root LV to verify this -- the root
password is not set and any additional users I've added are not being added to
the system.

I've spent several days on this and even created clean AutoYaST XML files from
fresh interactive installations. The XML file shows the users and their
encrypted passwords, but AutoYaST fails to build a system with these users and
the root password is not set.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new OpenSUSE 12.3 system interactively, set the root password and
add one or more users.

2. Start yast, select Miscellaneous > Autoinstallation > Tools > Create
Reference Profile. Select all products.

3. Select File > Save and save the XML file.

4. Build a system from bare metal using PXEboot and the XML file.

5. Can't login. root password not set, additional users not added.

Actual Results:
System was successfully built, but you can't actually log in without going into
rescue mode and hand-editing the /etc/shadow file.

Expected Results:
A freshly-built, fully-operational OpenSUSE 12.3 system.
