I had the same problem as above and found a solution here:
http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=7302
To summarize: it seems the acpi event handling gets in the way of kde power
manager. Disable acpi for the power button as follows and KDE will do the right
thing:
edit /etc/acpi/events/power_button to read:
# care about the power button
event=button/power.*
#action=/usr/lib/acpid/power_button
action=/bin/true
As a result the output in /var/log/messages now is:
2013-03-29T14:23:18.347915+08:00 toshi systemd-logind[776]: Power key pressed.
2013-03-29T14:23:19.445785+08:00 toshi systemd[1]: Starting Sleep.
2013-03-29T14:23:19.449994+08:00 toshi systemd[1]: Reached target Sleep.
2013-03-29T14:23:19.450853+08:00 toshi systemd[1]: Starting Suspend...
2013-03-29T14:23:19.453420+08:00 toshi systemd-sleep[1792]: Suspending
system...
instead of:
2013-03-29T14:22:18.075175+08:00 toshi systemd-logind[781]: Power key pressed.
2013-03-29T14:22:18.125030+08:00 toshi pm-profiler: Power Button pressed,
executing /sbin/shutdown -h now
Of course it would be great if someone with more expertise can confirm that
this is the right approach and an integrate it into an upcoming update.
