I have this problem as well. Gtk-Recordmydesktop works correctly using Debian
Sid but not in openSUSE 12.3. It seems like the recording only captures frames
now and then making the video seems like a still image. Is this an
incompatibility with libtheora?

The Debian version of the packages are:
libtheora0 1.1.1+dfsg.1-3.1
recordmydesktop 0.3.8.1+svn602-1+b1
gtk-recordmydesktop 0.3.8-3

Debian bugs on the issue with recordmydesktop:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=548631
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=559648

A patch is included with the debian source though it is in some obfuscated
dpatch format.

I tested changing the values in the source code and it works correctly. I
decided to search for an already made patch before I made one myself. I found
one from the Fedora project here:
http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/recordmydesktop.git/plain/recordmydesktop-sane-theora-defaults.patch

Here is my obs repository where I tested the patch:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=recordmydesktop&project=home%3Anightwishfan%3Atesting

The fix seems to work correctly. I made this video using my open build service
build. http://youtu.be/SfIiDodklCs

I hope this helps.
