https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=810963 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=810963#c0 Summary: Networkmanager does not show to be connected to a vpn while being connected to it. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: stakanov@freenet.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/22.0.1207.1 Safari/537.1 openSuse 12.2 (KDE4.10.1), take two user setup A and B. Define in A a VPN connection. Set it not as a system connection but as a normal one, but attribute advanced settings = connection managed by A and B. Log in to WLAN and then to the VPN account in A. You will now see: connected to the VPN provider (if you click on the icon in the tray). Switch now user to B. You see the connection of activated WLAN in the tray of B. But no VPN symbol. You click on the symbol in the tray: the description is WLAN connected, VPN not connected. You check with tracemyip or another service: you ARE connected to VPN. You open "manage connections" and go into VPN tag: here it does show connected to VPN! You click on modify to control settings: you see all is O.K., you exit without saving: now it shows connected! in the tray. This is particularly odd because safety of the VPN is already compromised by the fact that in secure file permission settings VPN is not connecting automatic to the VPN provider when the network fail. But now it does not even indicate correctly in the tray and in the info if you are connected or not. If a user is fooled by this he will try to set up VPN and will get as only info: "connection to (put provider here)- VPN failed" All this is undermining the very sense of VPN, IMO at least. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. two user personalities A and B 2. log in into wireless in A and then into VPN (settings as described above) 3. switch user to B 4. control network status shown in the tray. Actual Results: The tray shows not connected (either by symbol as by info in flag). When going into modify it shows connected. Expected Results: The tray and the info of Networkmanager should show consistent information with the actual connection status in order to control for being protected by VPN or not. openSUSE 12.2 with secure file settings, KDE4.10.1 release 545, icon set "Euphoria2", windows decoration Crystal 2.2.0 (march14), client VPN = openVPN The issue appeared in 4.10.1 and was AFAIK not present in 4.8.5 and 4.9.5 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
