[This is really for 12.3 and beyond, but bugzilla doesn't know that release
yet?]

Kernel installs with full modules always take incredible long (several minutes)
This is related to mkinitrd using gzip -9 to compress the initrd. -9 only
gives a tiny bit of space saving, but takes a lot longer than the default
settings. I usually remove the -9, but every update brings it back.

- Consider changing the default: just drop the -9

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 23232956 Mar 15 22:47 initrd-3.7.10-1.1-default
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 23355299 Mar 15 22:47
initrd-3.7.10-1.1-default-gzip-default

Only 0.5% difference.

- If you really want to keep it make it a sysconfig setting at least.
- If you really want to save space rather use bzip2 or so, the kernel should
support that and it's still much faster than gzip -9

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 21588996 Mar 15 22:48 initrd-3.7.10-1.1-default.bz2

~8% savings over both gzips.
