--- Comment #14 from Achim Gratz 2013-03-05 20:23:42 UTC ---
I'm having this issue (or something eerily similar) on a "real" machine running
12.2/Tumbleweed:
Duringt booting I can see that the vts get initialized, then plymouth (I have
splash=verbose) bounces me over to vt7. At this time I can still switch to
vt1…6 with Ctrl+Alt+Fn. When kdm is starting, the vts become inaccessible. I
have to restart kdm by doing a "console login", however both the login and the
subsequent commands have to be typed in "blind": as soon as kdm closes the
monitor goes into power-off state. After restarting kdm from a "dark" root
shell I still need to switch between vts to wake up the monitor.
Sometimes I manage to switch to a text vt just when kdm is about to start. In
that case the boot messages from plymouth stay on vt7 while kdm starts on vt8.
I haven't managed to do that too often, but it seems that in this case the vts
are not deactivated by the start of kdm and remain functional, which may
explain why this bug has not showed up when plymouth kept the boot messages on
vt1.
