Oops, sorry, I cut and pasted the link and forgot to update it. It should have been: http://helgaas.com/linux/suse748616/bzImage3 and it should have a few new printks around the _PS0 evaluation. I expect that if you boot it, we'll see the one before ("acpi device:05: evaluating _PS0"), but not the one after ("acpi device:05: _PS0 status ...").
It looks like _PS0 does run a method (CAIN) with a loop that could conceivably not terminate, but my ASL-fu is pretty weak. Rafael is going to have to jump in here.
It looks like writing 1 to PMS0 actually clears it, so this probably is a status flag of some sort.
