https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=745700 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=745700#c0 Summary: system freezes due to extensive disk usage (by systemd and firefox) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dkxls23@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0 The whole system freezes, i.e. reacts on user action with a delay > 2min! The system stays in this state for about 10min or longer. During that time an extremely high disk usage (read/write) is observed. The CPU usage stays on a low level (checked with 'top') and no peeks of a certain process are observed. A deeper investigation with 'iotop' reveals a very high activity of 'firefox-bin' and 'systemd-tmpfiles --clean'. Firefox has a value of >90% for 'SWAPIN' and systemd a value of >90% for 'IO>'! It is very difficult to do these investigations since the system reacts with a delay of 2min or longer to a user action. After some time it stops and the system can be used as usual. Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce Steps to Reproduce: I haven't found a way to reproduce the behavior. It occurs suddenly and approximately once a week, where I'm using my laptop daily for several hours. Actual Results: System is unusable for 10min or longer! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
