yes, this seems to be an nvidia driver issue. Google for "nvidia PixmapCache
kde" and you will find lots of users complaining about graphics performance
loss over time.
For example look for this text:
"
This effect is temporarily cured if I "flush" Pixmap Cache with the following
commands:
nvidia-settings -a PixmapCache=0
nvidia-settings -a PixmapCache=1
"
in http://www.poweradded.net/2011/06/nvidia-support-sucks.html
This is going on for years, and it seems that nvidia support doesn't care much.
Really bad.
The only solution is to add the above nvidia-settings stuff to a cron job as a
poor workaround.
BTW: this happens for me with GeForce 8600M GT and a GeForce 7800 GTX too.
Latest 290.10 driver.
It can be tested best with long slashdot threads. In Firefox you will see the
performance degradation after a few times scolling up and down.
I also submitted issue #101031-000091 in the nvidia bug tracker "Nvidia Driver
Feedback". Not even a reponse.
Maybe you folks at Suse/Novell can kick some butt at nvidia. This would be
highly appreciated. thanks!
