I don't know about any interaction with openoffice but I do observed that
several times a day kmail uses 100% of one cpu for several minutes while
seemingly doing nothing at all. It always does this shortly after (but not
immediately after) boot.
I also observe that kmail often (ie several times a week) goes to sleep and
stops being interactive sometimes with CPU at 100% and bizarrely sometimes not.
If I leave it for a while it recovers but more often than not I get bored, kill
it and start again.
Suse 11.4 / x86_64
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND
2740 xxxx 20 0 614m 42m 27m R 99 0.5 14:47.94 kmail
~ 3 minutes like this, approximately 15 minutes after boot and it has already
done this once shortly after boot. It was minimised and apparently doing nowt.
and after a short pause at 0 CPU:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
2740 xxxx 20 0 614m 42m 27m R 99 0.5 16:13.16 kmail
it starts again for ~90 seconds. There is a tiny bit of disk activity but I
think this is largely incidental.
Again a few minutes later:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
2740 xxxx 20 0 614m 42m 27m R 100 0.5 18:27.69 kmail
and so on and so on.
so that is 4 blocks of 100% cpu in the time it took to write this bug report
comment!
