I have this shiny brand new Lenovo W520 with 8 gigs of ram. I recently
installed openSuSE 11.4 on it. I also installed vmware so I can support Novell
Partner Teradata (they are windows-only environment). So I kept getting this
error when I tried to boot my windows VM (actually any VM for that matter):

Aug 17 16:43:34.663: vcpu-0| [msg.log.monpanic] *** VMware Workstation internal
monitor error ***
Aug 17 16:43:34.663: vcpu-0| vcpu-0:ASSERT vmcore/vmm/main/irq.c:100 bugNr=2293

Looking up on google I find a solution to turn off nmi_watchdog---which I did.
But still got the same error. SO looking at messages file I see this:

<6>[ 0.042275] CPU0: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2720QM CPU @ 2.20GHz stepping 07
<6>[ 0.147143] NMI watchdog enabled, takes one hw-pmu counter.

Something is turning on NMI watchdog after I told kernel to not turn it on? So
on a hunch I add nox2apic to kernel cmdline, presto VMs come up fine. Only
problem with providing

nmi_watchdog=0 nox2apic

is now wireless (iwlagn) will not work at all. The only way to get wireless to
work is to turn on X2APIC. Note, other external wireless USB adapters work
fine too when x2apic is on.
