No, the file "/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java" does not exist on
that system. That's a 32 bit system with opensuse 11.4 .
On a 64 bit system, I see a similar error message:
/usr/src/packages/BUILD/icedtea-web-1.1/plugin/icedteanp/IcedTeaNPPlugin.cc:1500:
thread 0x7f57d520f480: Error: Failed to spawn applet viewer: Failed to execute
child process "/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java" (No such file or
directory)
Correspondingly, "/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java" does not
exist on that system.
Before that "icedtea-web" update in late June, I have used java applets on the
32 bit system, and probably on both systems.
I'm testing this with:
http://www.nytimes.com/ref/crosswords/sudoku/medium.html
which should show a sudoku puzzle, and did before that June update. The page
itself still works on my Desktop, where I have temporarily switched to Sun
java. But with the openjdk version on my laptops, that web page no longer
works (it loads, but without the puzzle and with an error popup).
