https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691130 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691130#c0 Summary: brightness keys disfunctional on Dell INSPIRON mini laptop Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100626 SUSE/3.6.6-1.1 Firefox/3.6.6 After fiddling around for a while I got the progress bar displayed on my dell inspiron mini laptop. (acpi_backlight=vendor does this trick). However, though displaying a progress bar that can be modified by the corresponding keys, nothing happens with brightness. In contrast, entering the directory /sys/devices/virtual/backlight there is an additional directory "compal" (not Dell, this is why I guess that things do not work) containing all brightness related files. Saying echo "1" >> brightness as root dims the light, echo "7" >> brightness as root brings the brightness back. So, basically, the functionality is there but the keys do not function as expected. Anyone having a idea how this could be fixed? I can add corresponding entries manually into pm-utils, but that's not the way things ought to be ...
