IMHO pam_xauth seems to have a race condition at least on the
systems of Tristan and Yi Xu
/suse/werner> rpm -qf /etc/pam.d/su
coreutils-6.12-32.10
/suse/werner> maintainer coreutils
pth@novell.com
/suse/werner> grep pam_xauth /etc/pam.d/su
session optional pam_xauth.so
/suse/werner> locate pam_xauth.so
/lib/security/pam_xauth.so
/suse/werner> rpm -qf /lib/security/pam_xauth.so
pam-1.0.2-13.3
/suse/werner> maintainer pam
mc@novell.com
/suse/werner>
.. and IMHO WORKSFORME is not a solution in this case, the
question is: Which boundary condition(s) cause this behaviour
and why rebooting fix this. I'd like to see the clock setup
of both systems (which time zone, hwclock in localtime or
hopefully in Universal Time, ntpd running, network setup,
locale enviroment of users and super user root ... )
